TOKAS International Creators Program 2026 in Japan
Tokyo Arts and Space (TOKAS), operated by a division of The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, is calling for applications from international creators working in various creative fields to stay, engage in creation and conduct research activities in Tokyo during the artist-in-residence programmes in 2026 and 2027.
There are currently three residency programmes available:
International Creator Residency Programme: Individual Projects (3-month residencies)
- For Creators in the field of visual art, film, design, architecture, and to give opportunities to work in Tokyo.Online art courses.
Curator Residency Programme (1–3-month residencies)
- For people in the fields of curation, art criticism, and cultural research
Research Residency Programme (6 to 12 weeks
- For People to conduct research on arts and culture in the city of Tokyo, targeting both international and local creators in the field of visual art, film, design, architecture, music, sound art, performing art, and curation.

Eligibility Criterias for the TOKAS International Creators Program 2026
Candidates from all Countries are eligible.
- International Creator Residency Program:
- Resides outside of Japan.
- 5 years or more of experience in their specialized area.
- Sufficient English communication skills.
- Duo applications are eligible if at least one creator resides outside Japan.
- Students are ineligible (except for Ph.D. candidates).
- Curator Residency Program:
- Resides outside of Japan.
- 3 years or more of experience in their specialized area.
- Sufficient English communication skills.
- Duo applications are ineligible.
- Students are ineligible (except for Ph.D. candidates).
- Research Residency Program:
- Targets both international and local creators.
- Focuses on research in arts and culture in Tokyo.
- Applicants need a strong research proposal.
- Students are generally ineligible, except Ph.D. candidates.
